These beautiful handmade tumblers are decorated with intricate illustrations using the sgraffito method, where the artist carves in each drawing.
What we love about these tumblers is how versatile they are -- they make perfect drinking cups, flower vases, pencil holders, and more.
Due to the handmade nature of these pieces, each one is completely unique. Designs may vary.
Maker: Fire Sign Studio (Boston, MA)
Aimee Belanger is a teaching artist and the owner of Fire Sign Studio. After getting her BFA in painting from Massachusetts College of Art, she began teaching and experimenting with a variety of media, including printmaking, fibers, and eventually, clay. Over the past 4 years, she has combined her love of drawing and painting with making functional objects. Aimee is a resident artist at The Clay School in Lynn, and teaches for Boston Public Schools, The Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center, and Lesley University’s Illustration Department. She recently finished her Master’s in Art Education grades 5-12 at Lesley University.
The imagery in Aimee's work reflects her interest in mysticism, nature, and art history. She has studied the origins and repetition of symbolism used by artists and spiritualists, and is particularly interested in Medieval Catholic women mystics. She is also interested in botanical and anatomical illustration, animal symbolism, and the common house cat.
